Inner Space Caverns

This is an old post that was experiencing technical difficulties and never made it up. Inner Space Caverns is in Georgetown, about 30 miles north of where we live. Mom and Dad made a trip up there based on the cheesy sign and they were very surprised and impressed. It was huge!!!

Inner Space caverns were discovered in the 1960's by a Texas Highway Department drilling company. After drilling through 40 ft of limestone, they discovered the caves along with lots of old fossils and crazy formations that took a looong time to form. This is the entrance to the cave. You have to take a little railroad-type car to get down into it.

This is one of the bats that live inside the caves. Mom said she was scared when they would fly around everyone's heads.

Just to give you an idea of the size of some of the cave rooms, that's mom in the middle of the picture!!!

Red Bud Isle

This is our new favorite place to run around and make friends. It's called Red Bud Isle and it's a tiny island in the middle of the river near our house. There is a trail around it that is about a mile long and there is a grassy dog park in the middle. I don't even have to wear a leash here! I just run around all over the place and make lots of new friends! There are a bunch of places to jump in the water but I just like to watch all the other dogs do that. Sometimes I like to get my feet wet though! There are huge mansions on the other side of the river but you can't see them from the island. But the first photo shows some stairs leading down from one of them. I would stay here all day long if they would let me!

Dad's new favorite bridge

It's the Pennybacker Bridge, named after the engineer who designed it. It's 100 feet high over the water with no part of the bridge actually touching the river. It was built without support columns so as not to impede the boats passing under it.

Dad's toy.

Remember when I mentioned in an early post that new toy Dad wanted? He got it a little while ago. We're definitely not in California anymore...

We have a very safe apartment.
And it's not just Dad that keeps us safe!!!

Rollin' on their hogs!

Mom and Dad got bikes a while back, and they love them!!! Austin is such an outdoor city that you can ride almost anywhere you want. They've just started exploring the area around the apartments but I'm sure they're gonna start branching out soon.

Dad acting cool on his bike. (Mom loves it when he wears that shirt....it's 15 years old. Seriously.)

How cool is Mom posing with her bike?!?! (Is that Uncle Bill in the background? Am I the only one who sees that?)

Lake-WAY!!!!

Mom is at work so Dad, Bruiser, and I just want to wish Mom a huge congratulations! Mom is Lakeway Police Department's newest dispatcher!!! YAY MOM!!!!

Lakeway is a small town west of us in the hill county that has a western border along parts of Lake Travis. The population is somewhere over 10,000 with a very low crime rate. We are all very excited for her because it seems like a really nice group of people working there. So nice in fact, that the chief of police called her and thanked her for accepting the job offer. We're all really excited for Mom, we think this is going to be fun for her!!! She's excited to start there.

The Lakeway Justice Center combines the Lakeway Police Department with the Municipal Court.

Walk through those doors and you'll find......Kelly!!!

Un momento por Bruiser

Hola, mi llamo Bruiser y I am Max's brother. I snuck onto the computer to set the record straight here. I was the first one to have a thoughtful black & white photo!!!! I had one long before Max or Joel even thought of it! ERA PRIMER!!!! Mom took this about four or five years ago when I was still in my dashing youth.....

I'll let Max have the computer back.....I'm overdue for my nap.....

On a serious note......

I was browsing Uncle Joel's blogs and websites trying to discover what it is about his work that makes you believe that what he is saying is very thoughtful and deep. After much research, I've discovered his secret! His depth comes from his thoughtful black & white profile photograph. As they say, immitation is the sincerest form of flattery:

Don't be surprised if my posts start striking you as very deep from now on........

I like video games!

Mom caught me helping Dad play video games yesterday:

I always sit right between Dad's legs when he's playing video games because then I can see the TV and help Dad out with tips and strategy.

FREEZE WARNING

I've seen signs around the apartment complex off and on recently talking about freeze warnings. I've never saw that in San Diego! And they weren't kidding! We've had many days and nights in the high 20s or the low 30s! One night there were rain and ice storms.......

Dad loves the cold, especially with the jacket he got right after we moved there. I like the cold too, but it scared me a little bit at first when the wind started blowing hard. Bruiser isn't super fond of the cold, but he's a trooper when we go out to do our business. He's usually waiting on the stairs by the time Dad and I are done running around in the cold. Mom has figured out her own way to deal with the cold:

The weather has been fun though because it goes back and forth between cold and warm, so you don't get too tired of either one.

Barton Springs

Mom has been anxious to go to Braton Springs since before we even moved here. Barton Springs is a natural spring-fed pool in Zilker Park just a couple miles from us. As a sping-fed natural pool, the temperature is 70 degrees year-round and has a depth over 15 feet in some parts. Dad used to swim there when he was living here as a kid.

It was a beautiful day when Mom and Dad went there and there were a lot of people enjoying the park. Apparently January was a free month to swim (instead of the usual $1 fee).

Mom was very brave according to Dad. She got into the water knowing there were little (and not so little) fishies swimming around. Dad was watching some fish watch him as he was waiting for Mom to get in and she apparently swam right over to him and used his mask to find the fish!!! She even swam all the way across twice, while watching the bottom and watching the fish!!! She was very brave. She is very excited to be so close to Barton Springs and so many different swiming and river tubing places!

A quick recap.

Since the first of the year, a lot has gone on........

Mom and Dad went down to 6th St for New Year's Eve and walked around the closed streets and heard lots of music. They wisely left around 10 pm to avoid most of the crowd and came home and hung out with me and Bruiser. We all went at midnight and saw fireworks off to the east.

New Year's day saw Mom and Dad kayaking on the river underneath all the bridges leading to downtown. They loved it and said it was very beautiful. No pictures though because they were afraid to drop the camera. Mom was very patient with Dad who apparently gets competitive when kayaking.....

Mom started working as a receptionist at a local car dealership and has applied for a couple of dispatching jobs. She's a lock at one of them and should be getting a job offer any day. More on that as it develops....

Dad started working for a private ambulance company up north and recently got a job offer from the county EMS system just south of us and he starts orientation in a week. More on that as it develops.....

They have been exploring much of the city and county and have fallen in love with so much of it. Almost every restaurant they go to they come back saying, "We need to take people there when they visit!" SO COME VISIT PEOPLE!!!!!!

I'm the luckiest dog ever!!!!

Ok, bad news first......

This is kinda embarassing, but I figured I might as well share the good with the bad.........

I have mites. Yep, it's true. I was born with them though. Actually, all dogs are, but often their immune system kills them as they get older. The mites have been a little too strong for me so far, but it's not uncommon. What does this mean? Well, I have a little itchy spot in my left armpit and a tiny bald spot on my back that you can't even see. I'm like Uncle Joel, I grow my hair long to cover my growing bald spot! Hee Hee.....

All kidding aside, it's not a big deal. Mom and Dad were giving me baths twice a week when the vet thought it might be ringworm, but it wasn't. Dad gives me some daily medication that's gonna last a month and then I should have a clean bill of health!!!
They've been talking about getting me nootered (whatever that is) soon, so we'll see what happens with that. I'm not sure what that is, and they always change the subject when I ask about it......

Just a Dog!!!

I've gotten some grief because I haven't updated the blog lately, but lets not forget, I'm just a dog!!! I need some help with these posts and Mom and Dad aren't always available. I'll try to be better about it though because I've been so busy!!!!
